There is no truth in the novel, but there is no lie either. Fulfilling an ideological order, the writer flooded with half-truths, but even they are so terrible that the novel does not fulfill the tasks that were assigned to it.
2. In the USSR there are practically no literary works about the post-war operations of the Soviet troops, but there are an endless number of them about the Second World War. This phenomenon is the subject of a conversation between RS columnist Lev Roitman and American literary critic, Professor Maurice Friedberg, head of the department of linguistics at the University of Illinois.

1. Фрагмент из романа об афганской войне А.Проханова "Дерево в центре Кабула".
Правды в романе нет, но и нет лжи. Выполняя идеологический заказ, писатель наводнил полуправду, но даже она так ужасна что роман не выполняет тех задач, которые на него возлагались.
2. В СССР практически отсутствуют литературные произведения о послевоенных операциях советских войск, зато о Второй мировой их бесконечное множество. Этому феномену и посвящена беседа обозревателя РС Льва Ройтмана с американским литературоведом, профессором Морисом Фридбергом, заведующим кафедрой словистики иллинойского университета.
