Contents/Summary

Summary
"Far away from here” is where Daniela, who is 17 would like to live in the future. “Here” is a poor part of town in Montevideo, Uruguay, where Daniela lives in a small house with her son, husband, mother, sister and brother-in-law. They are better off than most of the people living in the neighbourhood so the neighbours envy them, which makes Daniela wish she lived far away. They all work and struggle to keep the family together. However, the father is missing. He is one of the millions of emigrants from Latin America whose salaries are both essential for the survival of their families and crucial to the economy of their home country. He promised to return home soon but making that decision is not easy as he is in the United States illegally. Once he returns, he will not be able to go back. And who would support his family then?
