In 1949, when the Chinese Civil War ended, the KMT withdrew to Taiwan, but the last batch of the Nationalist troops from Yunnan hid in the jungle of the Thailand-Burma mountains. In 1961, the United Nations ruled that the troops were to retreat and be moved back to Taiwan but a secret command was issued from Chiang Kai-Shek, ordering them to stay and wait for an opportunity to counterattack. Fifty years of waiting have gone and they have become nothing but an isolated troop in northern Thailand.
