a| In the south region of Mato Grosso do Sul the Guarani Kaiowá, an indigenous group, struggles for control of their territory. Expelled from their lands, the Guarani Kaiowá live in less than one percent of their original territory, which has been converted to thousands of hectares of sugarcane planted by multinational enterprises that, in agreement with the government, show ethanol to the world as an environmentally friendly and clean fuel. With no alternative of subsistence and suffering from malnutrition, Guarani Kaiowá adults and children are exploited in the cane fields. “The Dark Side of Green” exposes the Guarani Kaiowá’s story.
