The black and white prints of RFE/RL were donated to OSA by the Hoover Institute, California in year 2015. The images are duplicates of those held at Hoover. The originals, and most probably the negatives are with the donor as well. OSA only received the paper prints with captions, and digitized the entire collection in year 2018.
Four men work in the tape library. One is sitting at a typewriter, and is checking a bunch of papers. On his lap there is an open box of audio tape and holds the reel in one hand. Two men stand on two sides of a special counter made for the tapes. Both have an open box in front of them. On top of the counter there are stacks of boxes of tapes, an ashtray, clipboards, stationary. The fourth man is at the far end of the office by the standing shelf. Two wear white shirts, one a tee shirt, and one a wind jacket. Cf. ORIGINAL CAPTION: 850 - Radio Free Europe Tape Library, Munich, Germany. Polish producer signs out a tape for broadcast. About 150 taped programs are expedited from the library daily. Many of these programs have been recorded in New York and flown to Munich. In addition about 130 tapes are permanently disbursed from the library - either being sent to the station in Lisbon, Portugal, or being erased (see picture #883) [HU OSA 300-1-8/1:110]. In some cases, especially of music programs, duplicate tapes are sent to Lisbon. If the broadcasting channel from Munich is jammed or if weather causes transmission problems, the program can be carried from Lisbon on the duplicate tape instead of from the Biblis transmitting station in Germany.
