a| 'Thy Father's Chair' focuses on two protagonists, a pair of elderly, Orthodox Jewish twin brothers, called Abraham and Shraga. Their family home in Brooklyn has not been cleaned since their parents passed away. They've stopped throwing away anything, instead hosting stray cats and accumulating all sorts of objects. When the tenant in the upstairs apartment stops paying rent because of the problems with rubbish and vermin, Abraham and Shraga have no choice but to open their doors to professionals. In seven chapters, the apartment is gradually transformed under the strict supervision of Hanan, the head of the cleaning team. The process doesn’t always go smoothly, however; a third brother refuses to cooperate, Shraga withdraws from decision-making and Abraham tries to cling on to every single object the cleaners want to remove. A traumatic invasion of privacy forces the brothers to confront their memories in order to try to find a new beginning.
