In 2002 the Hong Kong government proposed legislation to be enacted, by July 2003, under Article 23 of Hong Kong’s Basic Law. A protest march was called for July 1, starting in Victoria Park. More than half a million people marched, most wearing black. Protests focused on the strict timetable and the government’s refusal to publish the legislation’s exact wording. The film shows individual and mass reactions to the proposed national security legislation. It preserves the speeches, songs, chants, posters, and banners, as well as the atmosphere, for those who were there, and introduces them to those who were not. By July 9, the legislation had been withdrawn and a rally at the Legislative Council Building, called in protest, became a celebration. “July” is a record of these events. 580 Verzio Film Festival Submission 655 4 Documentary films 260 Hong Kong : |bCheung, Tammy, |c2004. 041 yue |jeng |jzho 952 |00 |10 |40 |50 |70 |8FL |992170FL |bFL |d2016-11-25 |l0 |r2016-11-25 |w2016-11-25 |yDVD-ROM 952 |00 |10 |2ddc |40 |6FL_RECORD_2197_000000000000000 |70 |8FL |9148277FL |bFL |d2020-12-08 |l0 |oFL Record 2197 |pHU_OSA_00003851.mp4 |r2021-11-04 |w2020-12-08 |yDIGIFILM |zAccess Copy, MP4 format |cAudio Visual 920 01 xeENjyoJ 966 True |bHU_OSA_00003851 |cDigitally Anywhere / With Registration
