- Summary
- Interviews were conducted for two years with former classmates, including Rudolf Ungváry and György Kézdy.
András Sipos was interested in how the history of the year beginning on March 19, 1944, the day of the German occupation of Hungary, was preserved in the memory of the boys around the age of 8.
History paints a particularly varied picture in the film from the bottom view of childhood. There were those for whom it meant hiding with strangers, using pseudonyms, and there were those for whom it was spending a long vacation with rural grandparents. For some it was a starred house or ghetto. A classmate who lost his hand in the bombing and one who witnessed an execution also speaks. András Sipos's film is not only about history, which is not a child's history, but also about the peculiar nature of remembrance.
On the eve of the 70th anniversary of the German occupation, 12 former classmates, child witnesses, remember the tragic turn.
