a| The story of Native Americans who resisted the loss of their protected fishing territory over the past 100 years. The film profiles tribal fishermen who fought for the treaty right to fish at all "Usual and Accustomed Places", as guaranteed by treaties made in the 1850's. The Makah, Lummi, and Yakima Tribes brought three major lawsuits before 1900 in an effort to protect their rights. One case, brought by the Makah in US vs. James G. Swan, was an effort to protect sealing rights based on the 1855 Treaty. Extensively researched, this documentary provides a unique point of view of the cycle of history involved in salmon and sealing rights.
