In northern Russia lies the Sami village of Krasnoschelie, and the last site traditionally breeding Sami reindeer. It is the ancestral home of Alexandra Artieva and her family who can only be reached by helicopter. Two years ago the kolkhoz, collective farms from the former Soviet Union, stopped paying salaries, and even the health care center was closed. There are plans to evacuate the village as the international corporations are keen to exploit the raw materials of the tundra, endangering the unique pastures. Alexandra becomes a member of the newly founded Sami parliament to fight for the survival of the village and the traditional lifestyle lead by inhabitants who live there.
