Soldier Ivan Shadrin, originally a peasant, leaves the front and heads for Petrograd, carrying a letter to Lenin. Shadrin and his comrades believe that Lenin will give all the answers to their questions. At the same time, the army of general Krasnov is approaching the revolutionary city. Shadrin joins the Red Army.
