a| Water mysteriously vanishes in Warsaw at the height of the summer. Renowned scientists in order to solve this problem employ the invincible “Ace” – a socialist Superman. It turns out that an old friend of his from Oxford has undertaken a fiendish plot, installing immersion heaters in Polish lakes, which he turns on when the wind is blowing south. Water evaporates and moves in a cloud towards a sub-Saharan state, whose demonic ruler sponsors the conspiracy. There, refrigerators attached to balloons condense the cloud and produce rain. The Ace faces an unequal struggle, but finally succeeds. An outstanding parody of Western action films and comic books: playful, full of quotes and references to popular culture as well as to socialist reality. It offers a panoply of eccentric characters, such as a dwarf dressed in a folk costume, engaging in absurd dialogues. It is thoroughly inventive: the opening credits are not listed, but recited by one of the actresses. Today it is considered a cult film, although its reception was not as enthusiastic when it was first screened.
