Contents Summary
Recording of the second part of the 15th Commencement Ceremony of the Central European University, which took place on June 15, 2006 in the Budapest Congress and World Trade Center (BCWTC). The recording continues with awarding degrees to the students who graduated from CEU’s special programs, such as “Roma Access Program.” It continues with the conferring of the doctoral degrees, the outstanding academic achievement awards and the special departmental recognitions. Júlia Teleki (Student Council Representative) announces Richard Kartosonto (Student Life Officer) as the “Best CEU Administrative Employee.” On behalf of the CEU Business School the “Administrative Employee Recognition Award” was awarded to Veronika Kovacs (Student Services Manager at CEU Business School). The first Dr. Elemer Hantos Prize, given by the Central Europe Foundation of Zurich, is awarded to Stefan Messmann and Tibor Tajti. After the musical interlude performed by Balázs János Junior on piano, George Soros (CEU founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees) delivers the laudatio for Ricardo Lagos (former President of Chile) and awards him with the “CEU Open Society Prize.” The commencement address is then delivered by Ricardo Lagos. The ceremony continues with moving the tassels from left to right as a symbolic gesture for graduating. The concluding remarks are then offered by CEU’s Academic Pro-Rector László Mátyás and CEU’s President and Rector Yehuda Elkana. The academic recessional closes the ceremony.
