Recording of CEU’s 13th Graduation Ceremony, held in the Operetta Theater on June 17, 2004 when more than 450 students receive degrees, both Master’s and doctoral. The ceremony starts with the academic procession and with the words of the Master of Ceremonies and Academic Pro-Rector László Mátyás. The introductory remarks are delivered by President and Rector of CEU Yehuda Elkana. After the speeches of the Alumni and the Representative Student, the Heads of the CEU Departments, CEU Rector Yehuda Elkana and CEU founder George Soros confer the degrees and offer congratulations to the graduates. Next, the representative of the Student Council, presents the award for the most supportive and helpful administrative employer of the university - “Best Administrator” is awarded to Richard Kartosonto (Student Life Officer). CEU founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees George Soros introduces Commissioner Emma Bonino of the European Commission and awards her with the CEU Open Society Prize. She then delivers a speech. Finally, the commencement address is delivered by Mark Malloch Brown (UNDP Administrator) on "Factors of Freedom." Concluding remarks are given by Yehuda Elkana and László Mátyás. CEU’s choir performs in front of the audience and the ceremony ends with the academic recessional.
