Content and Structure

Scope and Content (Abstract)
This series contains reports in the form of bulletins (20-50 pages in length), created by the Free Europe Committee, for Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Yugoslavia. The reports were written in the respective national languages and covered political, economic and cultural life as well as the living conditions in these countries from 1951-1957.

Bulgarian reports were issued monthly from 1951 to 1953. However from 1954 to 1956, they were published on a bi-monthly basis.

Hungarian reports were published, bi-weekly in 1950 and then in 1951 they were published on a monthly basis. The format of the Hungarian bulletins from 1952 to 1956 changed look more like a journal, which included a volume and issue number, and a title in both Hungarian and English. The series also contains additional reports compiled by Free Europe Press, a division of Free Europe Committee, which were published weekly in 1955 and 1957, to cover and comment on the important events according to the Hungarian press. The Free Europe Press Hungarian reports from 1956 are missing.

Polish reports were published semi-annually on January 1951 and July 1952. For the remainder of 1952, the Polish bulletins were published monthly with the last issue published in January 1953.

Yugoslav reports exist separately in Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian. These reports started in October 1950 and were issued monthly up to December of 1954.
