Content and Structure

Scope and Content (Abstract)

This series contains both English and Hungarian transcripts, reports, drafts and other preparatory materials of broadcasts of the BBC Hungarian Service, as well as a chronological collection of British Press articles, reports and coverage related to Hungarian politics. The materials, among others, focus on broadcasts of the 1956 events, including British Press documentations as well as political actions, both in the West, Hungary and the Soviet Union. Mostly, the titles are in English, while the texts are in Hungarian. The collection includes two transcripts of BBC‘s European Service Broadcast programs in June 1957, focusing on the U.N. Special Committee's Resolution on Hungary. The series also contains two short interviews made in 1982 with members of the Polish underground movement, Adolf Pilch and Mieczysław Mlotek.

The first part of the series, the BBC Hungarian Talks Scripts is arranged chronologically. The second part, the BBC Reports on Hungary contains chronologically arranged documents on the events of the 1956 Revolution. At the end of the series, miscellaneous documents on the work of the BBC Hungarian Service can be found.
