Contents Summary
Audio recording of semi-professional female stranbêj Basê Qasim and Khanif Muho (both from Siba Sheikh Khidir) singing the lament Li Ser Çiyayê Şingalê (On the Sinjar Mountain). While they claimed the lament itself was an old one, they said they had “added” to it their own stories about the sufferings of Yezidis at the hand of ISIS. The singing of the lament took place at the traditional spot designated for stranbêj on Mount Arafat at Lalish, during the Yezidi festival of Cema’iye.
