Administrative / Biographical history

Judit Miklósy was born in 1950 in Budapest, Hungary, into the Miklósy acting dynasty. Her father, György Miklósy, was a Jászai Mari Prize-winning actor, her grandmother, Aranka Molnár, an actress, her grandfather, Aladár Miklósy, an actor and theater director of the Kisfaludy Theatre in Óbuda, and her great-grandfather, Gyula Miklósy, an itinerant actor.

Her maternal grandfather, Dr. Miklós Radványi (Rosenauer), was born in Besztercebánya (today’s Banská Bystrica, Slovakia). From the 1920s, he was staffer at the newspaper *Est*, publishing under the pseudonym Miklós Ros. After the Treaty of Trianon, he moved to Kecskemét, where he worked as the chief accountant of the Agricultural Credit Cooperative. One of his articles, in 1942, led to his resignation, and his move with his family from Kecskemét to Budapest. After the war, he got a job at the Dunavölgyi Timföldgyár Rt., and later at the retail company Sport és Játékszerbolt; he became active in politics in the Smallholders’ Party. In 1951, Radványi and his family living under the same household (his wife, Miklósné Radványi, their daughter Judit, Radvány’s sister Sándorné Gyürky, and her daughter Katalin Gyürky), were expelled by the Ministry of Interior from Budapest with immediate effect, designating an address in Mezőberény as their place of residence, and gave them 24 hours to surrender their flat. They were one of the more than 5,000 families the Rákosi regime forcefully relocated from Budapest to Eastern Hungary, in 1951.

Archival history

The documents were discovered by Judit Miklósy in her home in the early 2000s, and donated to the Blinken OSA Archivum in 2023, along with a text summary she wrote and transferred in digital format.

The fonds contains documents relating to the forced relocation of the Radványi family, a copy of a list of names of those relocated from Budapest to Mezőberény, and the donor’s summary of the history of the displacement.

Scope and Content (Narrative)

The fonds contains documents relating to the forced relocation of the Radványi family. Some of these are official records (or their copies), such as the decision of the Ministry of the Interior and the family’s appeals against it, as well as certificates and petitions relating to accommodation, employment, and education. The bulk of the documents are personal correspondence between the extended family and the displaced family members. Drawings, picture books, and photos depict family members and their lives in exile. The fonds also includes a copy of a list of names of those relocated from Budapest to Mezőberény, and the donor’s summary of the history of the displacement.
