Content and Structure

Scope and Content (Abstract)

Around 500 hours of amateur film shot by Hungarian citizens between 1925 and 1985 on 8 mm film, mostly recorded in Hungary, with some footage from central and western Europe. The films document people's everyday lives - children, family holidays and celebrations - as well as some public, historic events as seen through private eyes, including the 1956 Hungarian revolution.
The collection also contains the creative documentary films by film director Péter Forgács whose storytelling is largely based on the archival home movie collection.
Over 200 hours of oral history interviews recorded on audio cassettes with amateur filmmakers and with members of their families also form part of the sub- fonds.
Both the films and the related audio interviews were digitized at OSA in 2019, and are accessible in MP4 and MP3 file formats (respectively) at OSA.
