Recording of the 14th CEU Graduation Ceremony held at the Operetta Theater on June 16, 2005 when approximately 450 Master’s degrees, along with 25 doctoral degrees, were awarded. The Master of the Ceremonies was László Mátyás, CEU University Professor of Econometrics and CEU Academic Pro-Rector. Introductory remarks were delivered by CEU President and Rector Yehuda Elkana. The student speaker was Andreea Raluca Maierean, an MA candidate from the Political Science Department. Speaking on behalf of the CEU alumni was Monica Macovei (Legal Studies, 1993), who became the Minister of Justice in Romania. In addition to the awarding of degrees, certificates were given to those who completed the Special Business program, as well as the Roma Access Program. The commencement address was then delivered by Antjie Krog, the South African poet, writer, and journalist, who earlier in the ceremony was awarded the CEU Open Society Prize by the CEU founder, George Soros. The ceremony ends with the performance of the CEU’s choir, moving the tassels to the left and the academic recessional.
