Recording of the Official Opening of the 1994-1995 Academic Year of the CEU at the Budapest City Hall with the participation of the mayor of Budapest, Gábor Demszky and the founder of CEU, George Soros. The audio-cassette contains Demszky’s speech in which he mentions the new campus of the CEU on Nador street, as well as moving the Archives Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty and the Samizdat collection under the roof of the OSA Archive. It also contains George Soros’ Commencement Speech in which he mentions Sir Karl Popper’s death, passes his regrets for Popper not being present at CEU and elaborates on Popper’s philosophical and political ideas. Further remarks on Sir Karl Popper are delivered by CEU University Professor Jirí Musil and President and Rector of CEU Alfred Stepan.
