Content and Structure

Scope and Content (Abstract)
The better part of the series comprises correspondence, education-related documents, and publications. A small number of folders contains personal IDs, notes, and immigration-related papers. Box No. 7 contains an album holding a compilation of original documents–mostly official letters, attestations, and newspaper clippings.

Scope and Content (Narrative)
The (paper-based) correspondence in this series is limited to exchanges with only a few parties, including Ms. Balogh's mother, Dezsőné Balogh (née Lujza Pfeifer); István Csukás, friend of Eva S. Balogh during her student years in Budapest; two unknown, presumably Chinese pen-friends from Budapest; and finally, Éva Standeisky and György Litván of the 1956 Institute in Budapest. Access to Eva Balogh's correspondence with Dezsőné Balogh (née Lujza Pfeiffer) and with István Csukás is restricted.

School reports from Klára Leöwey General Girls' Gymnasium in Pécs, documents issued by Budapest Eötvös Loránd University, various correspondence with staff and professors at Carleton University in Ottawa and Yale University in New Haven, CT, and the two theses (MA and PhD) defended at Yale University constitute the second group of documents in this series.

During her short academic career, Ms. Balogh has published book reviews and scholarly papers in various journals, including Canadian Slavonic Papers, East European Quarterly, Slavic Review and The Canadian-American Review of Hungarian Studies. After 1990, Ms. Balogh has also published opinion pieces and letters to the editor in various Hungarian language weeklies and newspapers, including 168 óra, Amerikai-Magyar Népszava, Magyar Hírlap, and Népszava. Many of these issues are part of this series.

Of particular interest for the researcher is the compilation of original documents in the album that is found in Box #7. It includes documents Ms. Balogh deemed important enough to be preserved in a book telling her life story (rather than in folders or envelopes, as were all other documents she kept). They include mostly documents in connection with her studies in Hungary, her immigration to Canada, and her graduate student and professional career at Carleton and Yale. These documents have been left in the album, but their color photocopies have also been inserted into their corresponding folders.
