The series is a collection of photographs and slides documenting the work of ARC in the Balkans.

Photographs are organized by country (photos received with the label ‘Balkans’ are found at the back of the series). More than half of the pictures are photo prints, the remaining pictures are color photocopies of original photographs (i.e. originals have not been transferred to Blinken OSA). Some pictures bear handwritten explanatory notes by the donor of this collection, Ms. Karen Johnson Elshazly. Separator sheets contain the exact information that was written on the original envelopes, in which the material was transferred to Blinken OSA.

The series also contains a set of black and white prints published by the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). These are found at the back of the series.

There is little information available on the slides in this collection, except that it appears that they were taken in Croatia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, probably between 1993 and 1997, by ARC staff. Some of the slides have been produced and published by the UNHCR.
