Content and Structure
- Scope and Content (Abstract)
- The Information Services Department's (ISD) functions included providing information to the Analytical Department of the Open Media Research Institute and to support the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty broadcasting. For these purposes the ISD run two Archives: East European Archives (EEA) and the SBEA, both in paper and electronic format.
The subfonds represent a comprehensive record of the political, military, cultural and social histories relating to the countries of East, Central and Southeastern Europe.
The EEA Series contains files on topics and personalities as well as monitoring and press survey files for countries in the region excluding Hungary.
The series covering the former Soviet Union countries contain files on topics and personalities drawn mostly from the Russian media, although materials from former Soviet republics are represented as well.
Besides materials collected and filed in the period 1994-1997 the earlier materials that were transferred from the RFE/RL Research Institute (Munich, Germany) are also included as a separate series.
Of particular interest may be a small collection of video materials relating to the elections held in Russia in 1995 and 1996.
