Content and Structure
- Scope and Content (Abstract)
- The series contains press clippings from Albanian and Kosovo press, news agencies releases and occasionally printed materials. Politics, economics, foreign relations and social issues are the most frequently monitored topics. The most extensive files cover the Albanian Communist Party, Albanians in Kosovo and Macedonia, foreign policy, the political and social situation in Albania during 1994-1997.
The files include materials collected and filed by Louis Zanga who worked at the RFE/RL Research Institute in 1961-1973 on a freelance basis and in 1984 was hired to launch Albanian language broadcasts. Since 1985 he worked on a contract basis as a Research Analyst. Besides preparation of weekly and daily papers on Albanian affairs his responsibilities included the maintenance of the Albanian, Kosovar and Macedonian archive. These materials were later incorporated into the centralized East European Archives at the Research Institute. Some of the files were transferred to OMRI. He also worked at Voice of America in 1958-1993 first as a staff member of the Albanian language service, and later as Munich stringer for the Albanian service. Some of the VOA materials related to Albania now comprise part of the Albanian Subject Files.
