In Defense of People: Trials of Golsorki and Daneshian
In 1972, the Shah of Iran began televising live the military trials of political prisoners to serve as a deterrent to the opposition. Those on trial were expected to beg for mercy; two of them—Khosrow Goulesorki and Kerramat Danneshian, heads of the Tudeh party—refused and were executed. Through their story this film looks at the Shah's attempt to maintain power while change was already on its way in Iran.

CNN Perspectives: Revolutionary Journey
Christiane Amanpour, who left Iran at the start of the Islamic Revolution, returns 20 years later for a CNN special. She covers the Iranian Revolution and the status of the government of Iran in the late 90s by interviewing her family, elders, and the Iranian youth. The report includes a mixture of old archival footage and footage of contemporary Iran. The highlights of the report are the tales of Western-oriented young people who would rather party and listen to rap music than participate in the Iranian revolution; the “western” English speaking, upper class Iranians who lead a double life and participate in behavior illegal in the Iran of the 1990s; photos and the testimony of a man who was punished for participating in parties; footage of the protests and riots on the campus of Tehran University during the summer of 1999 and interviews with the organizers of the student protests; reports on the use of the internet in Iran and the desire for Western music and films; reports on freedom of the press and a report on publisher Hamid Reza Jalalaipour; interviews with college student, Fatemeh Haghighajou, who is religious, yet wants a different Iranian society; and an interview with Muvadi Savogi, one of the hardest of the hardliners in the Iranian government on the desire for reforms and freedoms.

Iran Bombs Iraq
For centuries, Kurdish nomads have freely crossed the mountainous borders that officially split their homeland between Iran and Iraq. Iran is determined to divide up the Kurds and is spending millions on new roads and military bases along its border with Iraq. It wants to quench support among the Iraqi Kurds for the separatist Kurdish Democratic Party of Iran. KDPI fighters have based themselves in villages in Northern Iraq in preparation for their campaign in Iran. From their mountain vantage points Kurds watch Iranian shells destroy their homes. Torn apart between four countries, the shelling is a reminder of just how vulnerable the Kurdish nation is.
