Content and Structure

Scope and Content (Abstract)
The series contains biographical notes, resumes, diplomas, certificates, job applications and contracts, including job evaluations/self-evaluations, correspondence with institutions for which Alfred A. Reisch worked, course materials, conference papers, letters of reference, letters of appreciation, and some personal photos and postcards.

The correspondence and the letters of appreciation from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) School provide details about topics thought by Alfred A. Reisch during his 25-year involvement with the school and the gratitude with which these lectures were received by the Senior US Army staff. The themes range from Eastern-European and Soviet-Eastern-European relations between NATO, Warsaw Pact and US National Security interests in Eastern Europe. Additional details for his lectures can also be found in the course materials from the NATO School and the Defense Intelligence School. Among these materials, there also lecture notes on Euro-Atlantic integration (NATO, European Union) and related geopolitical, political, and economic issues, and national security/military affairs of the region with emphasis on foreign and regional policies and minority issues.

Course materials from Izmir University contain interesting course syllabus and notes on European diplomatic history, foreign policy of the European Powers, and history and development of the European Union (EU).

The series also includes materials related to his lectures and discussions at international conferences.

Among the correspondence with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) management on job related issues, few might be of interest to researchers looking for a more in-depth understanding of the daily life of analysts at the Research and Evaluation Section. There is also few pieces of correspondence pertaining to the reorganization changes at the RFE/RL during the ‘90s.

The series contains a few personal photos, among them an image of the 2008 NATO School ceremony at which Alfred A. Reisch was honored for his 25 years of academic support to the school.

There are also a few “thank you” postcards from Hungarian recipients of books that demonstrate the importance of the book distribution program as an effective method for penetrating the Iron Curtain.
