Scope and Content (Abstract)

As a prelude to the book distribution program of FEIE, Constantin Jelenski (1922-1987, founder of CCF and FEIE), circulated bibliographies to correspondents from 1957 onwards. His collection of titles included important books on various social science topics published in the West after 1939. Later the distribution of books became one of the main activities of the organization. Over the 25 years of its activities FEIE sent around 15,000 books to recipients in Eastern Europe.

The series contains information on the functioning of the book program within FEIE, the individual recipients and the items that were ordered. The documents are arranged chronologically and alphabetically and usually comprise an operational flow for each case: the list of requested books, the confirmation of receipt and – sometimes – letters of appreciation and gratitude. Clues are also offered about the books which did not reach their destination because of censorship.
