- This series contains the audio recordings of witness hearings before the United Nations Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary. Only sixty-five recordings of the one hundred and eleven testimonies have survived in the form of open-reel tapes. While none of the New York recordings were saved, almost all of the European testimonials have been preserved for posterity. The length of testimonies ranges from six minutes to five hours. While in the Archivum's curated Héderváry collection only three-minute excerpts were published, full length recordings are available here.
With a few exceptions, the witnesses gave their testimony in Hungarian. Members of the Committee could listen to the accounts in simultaneous interpretation in English, French or Spanish. Questions were usually phrased in English, and then translated into Hungarian for the witnesses by an interpreter.
These audio recordings make unique historical sources not only because they allow us to listen to the “live” testimony of the people involved, who sometimes spoke in faltering, passionate or cynical voices, but also because the witnesses’ original testimonies were never preserved in Hungarian transcripts. Thus to compile their Report, Committee members had to work from the tape recordings of the English interpreters’ simultaneous translations.

- Ez a sorozat az ENSZ magyar kérdéssel foglalkozó Különbizottsága előtti tanúmeghallgatások hangfelvételeit tartalmazza. A százegy tanúvallomásból mindössze hatvanöt felvétel maradt fenn orsós magnószalagon. Míg a New York-i felvételek közül egyet sem őriztek meg, addig az európai tanúvallomások szinte mindegyike megmaradt az utókor számára. A vallomások hossza hat perctől öt óráig terjed. Míg az Archivum kurátori Héderváry gyűjteményében cak háromperces részleteket publikáltunk, itt a teljes hangfelvételek elérhetők.
Néhány kivételtől eltekintve a tanúk magyarul tettek vallomást. A bizottság tagjai angol, francia vagy spanyol szinkrontolmácsolásban hallgathatták a beszámolókat. A kérdéseket általában angolul fogalmazták meg, majd egy tolmács fordította magyarra a tanúknak.
Ezek a hangfelvételek nemcsak azért jelentenek egyedülálló történelmi forrást, mert lehetővé teszik, hogy "élőben" hallgassuk meg az érintettek vallomásait, akik néha akadozó, szenvedélyes vagy cinikus hangon beszéltek, hanem azért is, mert a tanúk eredeti vallomásai soha nem maradtak fenn magyar nyelvű átiratban. Így a bizottság tagjainak a jelentés összeállításához az angol tolmácsok szinkrontolmácsolásának magnófelvételeiből kellett dolgozniuk.
