Content and Structure

Scope and Content (Abstract)
This series contains four types of magazine oriented directly towards the employees of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Inc., and provides a valuable source of information for researchers interested in finding out more about the real people behind the radio programs; their careers; their opportunities for advancement; their views regarding radio, each other, and their superiors; what their suggestions were for improving radio operations; and much more.

The series includes: 1) The Airwaves (1984–1986), a bi-monthly magazine for the employees of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Inc.; 2) The By-Line (1985–1987), a quarterly magazine designed to be a forum for all employees of RFE/RL to discuss their ideas and problems; 3) The On Air (1983), an occasional magazine chiefly oriented towards programmers, intended to offer an analysis of the journalistic evolution of the programs and to create a platform for exchanges of ideas among RFE/RL journalists; and 4) The Shortwaves (1988–1993), a monthly publication by the Office of Public Affairs for the worldwide employees of Radio Free Europe/ Radio Liberty.
