Scope and Content (Abstract)

The microfiche collection “Polish Independent Publications 1976”, published by the Dutch company IDC is based on RFE samizdat archive currently at OSA and complemented by holdings from the Polish Library (POSK) in London, Feltrinelli Foundation in Milan, as well as a number of smaller contributions from archives and libraries in the US, Canada and UK. It contains more than 1000 titles of Polish independent journals, published between 1976 and 1988. The collection is divided into three parts:

- Uncensored periodicals (1976 – December 12, 1981)
- Solidarność periodicals (1980 – December 12, 1981)
- Martial law and underground periodicals (post-December 1981)

Titles include not only complete serials of the most known periodicals, but also many less known underground publications, from leaflets and newsletters of local and regional Solidarity units, religious groups and academic circles, to the “thick” literary reviews and political journals. The émigré journals are not represented.
